Seit 1939 inspiriert Blue Note Generationen von Musikern auf der Suche nach individuellem Ausdruck und steht für Meinungsfreiheit, Gleichheit, Dialog - Haltungen, die heute genauso aktuell sind wie bei der Gründung des Labels. Durch aktuelle Aufnahmesessions, seltenes Archivmaterial und in Gesprächen mit Blue Note-Stars wie Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Norah Jones, Robert Glasper und Ambrose Akinmusire erzählt der Film vom Aufbruch des Jazz bis hin zum Hip-Hop.
