Erica Jongs erster Roman «Fear of Flying» war 1973 für viele Frauen ein Aufbruch in die Selbst­be­stim­mung. Für viele Männer und für das puri­ta­ni­sche Amerika war es ein Tabu­bruch.

Neu war der offene Umgang der Schrift­stel­lerin mit ihrer eigenen Sexu­alität, mit ihren Bedürfnissen, Sehnsüchten und Frus­tra­ti­onen. Aber auch ihr scho­nungs­loser Umgang mit ihren Ehemännern und Geliebten. Und mit sich selbst. Sie wurde als „weib­li­cher Henry Miller“ gefeiert – und gleich­zeitig verdammt.
