Algerien, 1990er Jahre. Nedjma, eine 18-jährige Schülerin, die sich für Modedesign interessiert, weigert sich, die Veränderungen durch den Bürgerkrieg in ihrem Land allzu sehr an sich heranzulassen.

Als das gesellschaftliche Klima immer konservativer wird, beschliesst sie, eine Modenschau auf die Beine zu stellen — und das, obwohl die radikalen Kräfte im Land das eigentlich verbieten.
