Elena und Vladimir sind ein älteres Ehepaar, die beide Kinder aus erster Ehe haben. Während er ein wohlhabender, aber gefühlskalter Mann ist, stammt sie aus bescheidenen Verhältnissen.

Nachdem Vladimir wegen eines Herzinfarktes ins Krankenhaus kommt, versöhnt er sich mit seiner nachlässigen Tochter und entscheidet, dass sie sein gesamtes Vermögen erben soll. Als er dies Elena eröffnet, ersinnt die sonst eher unterwürfige Hausfrau einen Plan, um ihrem arbeitslosen Sohn und ihren Enkeln eine Chance im Leben zu geben...
