SALONICA taucht ein in das heutige Leben der Stadt, erzählt von ihrer einzigartigen jüdischen Vergangenheit, begegnet unterschiedlichsten Menschen – jüdischen Überlebenden, russischen Immigranten, Zigeunern, griechisch-makedonischen Nationalisten – und zeichnet die komplexe Realität einer Stadt an der Peripherie Europas, ihre Schichten und Geschichten freilegend. Darüber hinaus handelt der Film von Macht und Last der Vergangenheit, von persönlichem und kulturellem Verlust und von individuellem und kollektivem Ringen um Identität.
